Questions & Answers

This is a misunderstood reaction by clients and Estheticians alike. Post facial you can experience a mild breakout that may not reach the service of the skin. This can occur with combination skin in addition to it being a more common reaction in oilier skin types.

There are 3 factors for this:
1. When a facial is performed there is both friction and exfoliation which removes and de-glues the upper dead layers of the skin. The newer skin is open and fresh. Using lotions and creams such as finishing products can be occlusive. This creates a sealant prevent skin function from reaching the upper layers of the skin.

2. People with sensitive or sensitized skin when they experience redness or becoming flushed the skin is producing heat and inflammation in the skin. When past a range of homeostasis in the skin, the skin will produce more oil to aid in cooling the skin and as a result this is what causes a breakout.

3. For women who are premenstrual it can cause your skin to be more reactive and sensitive to stimulation and products. We advise that if you are having a facial treatment 5-7 days prior to your cycle starting, we suggest that you let us know and we will adjust our products and treatment accordingly.

We want to make sure that the skin is not in a long term reaction and many times less is more as well as knowing certain treatments are not always best for your skin type and it’s about knowing and giving your skin what it needs. Hydrating 24 hrs post facial is better than immediately after if you are prone to a breakout. Benefits need to outweigh the response and we ask that you prepare accordingly.

Know Thy Skin in our Menu is a great way to determine which facial is for you and seeing the above Do’s and Don’t pre and post treatment will benefit you. Communication helps us do our best to support you.

We recommend having a facial treatment on a monthly basis to help with facial tension, relaxation and skin health. Should a maintenance every 4 weeks not work with your schedule, we recommend every 6 weeks.

Peels come in different strengths, combinations, and ingredients. We tailor the peel to you and what you are seeking to achieve. Light peels are warm and cause and itch in the skin. Medium depth peels will induce warm heat in and medical peels that travel deeper in the skin will have more heat and feel very warm but not quite hot. Medium or intermediate peels and deeper peels are not performed on a new client as skin needs to build tolerance. We introduce effective but gentle peels causing an itchy sensation as it penetrates the skin which is tolerated by all skin types with the exception of dry sensitive pre rosacea skin types. Our intermediate peels create a tolerable heat as they penetrate. Peels are an excellent way to resurface, rejuvenate and treat skin conditions in a controlled environment. When performed on a monthly basis results have much more impact and results have long lasting corrective and preventative skin response. Remember that post-care is highly important post treatment and if your lifestyle prevents you from adhering to proper post-care, we advise to only have lunch-time peels.

Yes! Our medical facials target acne with an emphasis on extractions this will also prevent further breakouts. Please understand that cystic acne removal can have some swelling and mild bruising in delicate skin. This is temporary and we recommend icing even after your facial.   Alternativing with peels will provide an excellent maintenance plan for resolving older wounds, PIH – Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation and reducing, if not preventing future acne outbreaks. This in conjunction with our Health & Wellness Consultation, helps to address skin health both inside and out.

Unfortunately, Ohip does not cover facials whether they are medical facials or otherwise. Even dermatology procedures are not specifically covered should the treatment fall under a cosmetic classification. Please check with your HR department as each company plans and insurance will differ and have varying coverage and allowances.

AILMENTS, CONDITION & LONG COVID

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is as much as we are the same we all react differently this was especially reaffirmed with Covid and Long-Covid. Some struggled to breathe requiring months to become well, others a cold, or lack of smell, and many, thankfully, had a strong cold. This is a reminder how differently conditions can affect us. If you are on medication, it is imperative that you get clearance from your physician of any possible contraindications with your condition and/or medication and our services.
