Microneedling also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT is a non-invasive minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin by way of a stamper, roller or pen. A microneedling pen is the prefered method of delivery. The action of delivery is a speed of oscillation of needles on the tip of the cartridge. This cartridge will maintain a depth depending on the location of treatment and adjusted to a deeper depth for thicker skin or scarred skin. This rapid oscillation stimulates collagen production, blood flow, and cell turnover, leading to improved skin texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and a more even skin tone.

Microneedling is a customizable treatment by using different cartridges with more or less needles or no needles, just minor elevated pins which is called a nano microneedling treatment. Both can be used in conjunction with serums to exfoliate, lift, hydrate, balance, boost or aid healing of scaring. Mesotherapy or microneedling-assisted mesotherapy is a treatment that combines the benefits of microneedling with the benefits of mesotherapy whether using hydrating ampoules, targeted treatments using clinical serums or prp or prf, (platelet rich plasma or platelet rich fibrin).
Initially, your skin care professional will apply topical lidocaine to numb the skin or temperature controlled cooling hammer and ensure a comfortable and pain-free treatment. Then, a thin layer of topical gel is applied and the pen is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
The number of sessions you will need will depend on the condition being treated and your particular skin type. For example, if you are being treated for acne scars, you may need a minimum of 5-6 sessions and upwards spaced 4-6 weeks apart. If you are being treated for wrinkles, you may need 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The spacing of appointments is dependent on the depth of the treatment and the time and fortitude your body requires to heal.
The results of microneedling treatment can be seen immediately, but they will continue to improve over time. Most clients will notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. The time it takes to visibly heal from a microneedling session is as little as 24-48 hrs and as long as 5-7 days for deeper medical treatments. The collagen remodeling stage will show the most results in 28 days which will continue onward for 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.
