How it works
Most often described as the sensation of a cat’s tongue licking your face, crystal microdermabrasion technology uses aluminum oxide, the most common crystal for the treatment is the second hardest mineral, diamonds being the first. It involves the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of finely ground aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin. At the same time, the machine’s vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals. Essentially this is a dual action treatment as there is a suction and an abrasion simultaneously with easy pass of the device when applied to the skin.

Oilier, thicker skin types tolerate crystal abrasion very well. Anyone who has thin or fine skin that is soft and buttery to the touch is not a candidate. It can induce heat and inflammation in the skin which will require cooling and without cooling, it can stimulate overactivity of the sebaceous glands which can have the opposite reaction to the skin. HOw to prepare and Maintain
You should not have any exfoliating treatments if you have a recent tan, sunburn, active acne, a flaring rosacea breakout, or an inflammatory skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis. Be sure not to have any open sores, broken skin and stay away from any actives such as retinol to avoid any sensitivities during and post treatment.
It is always important to protect your skin daily but especially post treatments from the sun right after a dermaplaning procedure, as it can make the skin more photosensitive which can contribute to hyperpigmentation.
