The Opportunity

This S r Scientist, Analytical Chemist role works onsite at our Santa Clara CA location in the Abbott Medical Devices Division.   Our medical devices help more than 10,000 people have healthier hearts, improve quality of life for thousands of people living with chronic pain and movement disorders, and liberate more than 500,000 people with diabetes from routine fingersticks.

The Staff Scientist - Analytical Chemist is responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects.

 

What You’ll Work On:

  • Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential technologies, materials, processes and products.  

  • Perform E&L method development, analysis, and validation (LCMS, GC/MS, ICP/MS).  

  • Plans and executes laboratory research to prove feasibility of concepts.  

  • Maintains substantial knowledge of state of the art principles and theories and contributes to scientific literature and conferences.  

  • Identifies and initiates programs which result in innovative application of existing or new products or technologies.  

  • Conduct experiments and/or develop strategies for consideration that extend beyond known scientific and engineering precedents.  

  • In order to enhance professional knowledge, the Advisor will review technical documents/publications, attend professional meetings, and interface with suppliers/vendors.  

  • As the organization's technical expert, the advisor will provide advice, assistance and direction to project teams and management, when required to assist with problem recognition, review, and resolution.  

  • Serves as an advisor on technical acquisitions and new technology development teams.  

  • Mentors other employees when appropriate .  

  • Required Qualifications  

  • BS degree in chemistry or  related field  

  • Minimum 8 years related work experience with a complete understanding of specified functional area.  

  • Experience and understanding of cGMP, ISO 10993 part 18, FDA and ICH requirements.  

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Strong background and experience with analytical method development using LC/MS, GC- MS and ICP-MS.  

  • Perform E&L method development, analysis, and validation (LCMS, GC/MS, ICP/MS).  

  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines, including HPLC, I CP-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, LC- MS and data interpretation.  

  • Will perform this job in a quality system environment.  

  • Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.  

  • Has expert knowledge of the impact of various solutions on the business.

The base pay for this position is $86,700.00 – $173,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
