Lonza Pharma & Biotech has an opening for a Sr. Scientist or Engineer to join their Research and Development team at their Bend, OR location.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participates in research, development and transfer of drug delivery innovations within Lonza
• Possesses the capability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and clearly communicate results in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Identifies opportunities to provide enhancement of current technology platforms and pursue new technologies. Drives the creation of intellectual property and achievement of strategic deliverables
• Knowledge of and ability to broadly apply scientific and engineering fundamentals in areas such as heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemistry, materials science and mathematical modeling
• Use physical models and sound hypotheses to design work plans and to interpret data
• Specific experience and comfort with designing, coding, and applying mechanistic and statistical models to guide process chemistry and engineering and formulation activities.
• Identify opportunities and lead innovation in new technology development and improvements to existing technologies that solve important problems in pharmaceutical development
• Contribute to the establishment of intellectual property around innovations
• Independently seek out and effectively apply knowledge from the literature or other external sources
• Effectively communicate scientific concepts internally and externally in verbal and written format, including preparing guidance documents and publishing results
• Exhibit leadership in scientific thought, in operational execution, and in supporting clients
• Serve as technical subject matter expert across the organization
• Be a technical and professional mentor for less experienced colleagues
• Other duties as required

Key Requirements:

• Requires a BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or related field
• Effective communication skills are required due to the multidisciplinary team structures
