Position: Grants Prospect Research Analyst

Job Type: Full Time

Location: On site in Scottsdale, AZ / or / Remote for those who live over 50 Miles from our Scottsdale Office.

Hours: M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in employee’s home time zone.

Remote Locations: KJA only employs individuals in the USA. We are not able to employ anyone who lives outside of the USA or who resides in the following states: California, New York, New Jersey, Washington State, North Dakota, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands.

Reports To : Senior Project Manager

Compensation Range: $50,000 - $60,000, DOE

Pay Schedule: Semi-Monthly on the 7th and 22nd

Detailed Summary of Benefits

  • Minimum of 40 hours of Paid Sick Time (PST), based on state of residency, frontloaded and available for use at the beginning of each calendar year. New employees starting during the year will receive a pro-rated amount of PST hours based on their start date.
  • Up to 80 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) each calendar year, accrued at 3.33 hours per payperiod, for FT Employees.
  • Up to 40 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) each calendar year, accrued at 1.67 hours per payperiod, for PT Employees.
  • 80 hours of Paid Vacation Time after one year of continuous employment, frontloaded on work anniversary date for FT employees. (PT = 20 hours.)
  • 120 hours of Paid Vacation Time, frontloaded on the work anniversary date, after your 5th year of continuous employment for FT employees. (PT remains 20 hours.)
  • 9 Paid Holidays each calendar year.
  • 401K plan with matching up to 4% with immediate vesting. Eligible after 1 year and 1,000 hours.
  • $50,000 in Employer Paid Group Life and AD&D Insurance.
  • Group Health Insurance with multiple choices available. Employer pays a portion of premium. Open to all W2 employees who work 30+ hours per week. Option to open HSA when enrolled in compatible health plan.

Position Description

Position entails searching through innovative and critical funding opportunities to find the perfect fit for each client’s fiscal needs. You will be utilizing a variety of search techniques including Instrumentl or Foundation Directory Online. To determine good funding fits you will need to read and interpret 990’s and review the details of RFP’s.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop a deep and ongoing understanding of client missions and programs to best find funder opportunities that ‘fit’ the clients’ needs.
  • Stay up to date on all funder giving criteria, grant processes, and online grant application portals (foundation, corporate, and government).
  • Identifying and analyzing federal and local government opportunities and develop grant opportunity summaries for distribution to KJA facilitators as appropriate.
  • Subscribe to funder emails and update team members on any significant changes to funder opportunities or processes.
  • Support team members in conducting weekly grant funding searches as needed.
  • Conduct specialized research for new and current KJA clients.
  • Conduct weekly searches to identify grant opportunities that may be a match for KJA clients. Update the Weekly Grant Opportunity spreadsheet with that new information and distribute to facilitators.
  • Participate in New Client Onboarding process, including attending onboarding calls, gathering information needed to conduct prospect research, and ongoing facilitator/client communication to ensure clients are aware of vital opportunities.
  • Responsible for development of each client’s annual grant calendar.
  • Locate corporate, foundation, local, state, and federal government grant opportunities using Instrumentl, grants.gov, or other grants database as assigned to aid in the development of annual client calendars.
  • Work with Senior Leadership, including the CEO, on special projects and on-demand requests, as needed, and assigned.
  • Conduct New Employee Orientation as needed and relevant to new hires at KJA.
  • Develop funder profiles for corporate and foundation opportunities as assigned.
  • Train and mentor additional prospect research staff onboarded at KJA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial status, ability and readiness to give, and alignment with the mission of the perspective client.
  • Ability to identify and analyze larger, complex federal and state opportunities.
  • Attention to detail, and ability to digest information quickly.
  • Critical thinking, a stellar work ethic, and organizational skills are a must.
  • Must be able to communicate and discuss, in writing and verbally, in a clear, concise, well-organized manner, concepts, opportunities and information to clients, team members and other related parties.
  • Ability to organize work and responsibilities to assure all required deadlines are met.
  • Ability to mentor and train peers
  • Meet or exceed Company standards of excellence, accuracy, and timeliness in all work produced.
  • Familiarity with funders in Arizona is required.
  • Consistently follow KJA online meeting etiquette guidelines.
  • Ability to become quickly proficient in the technology used by the Company to report and track client information, manage projects and workflow, and all communication channels, including Asana and GrantHub.
  • Experience with multiple technology and software platforms, including, but not limited to:
  • Microsoft 365 applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint
  • Virtual meeting platforms (Teams, Zoom)
  • Dropbox & Google Docs

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ Grants Prospect Research experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (advanced degrees preferred). Grant-specific training and/or grant writing experience a plus.

Work Environment

Primarily desk work in an office setting. May require long periods of computer usage, typing, reading, and data analysis. May involves in-person or virtual collaboration with team members and internal and external stakeholders. Employees are expected to dress in professional business attire.
