Philz Landscape Supply is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Nursery Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in grass seed varieties, soil composition, and plant care, as well as a passion for helping customers achieve their landscaping and gardening goals. This role involves providing expert advice, maintaining nursery inventory, and ensuring the health and presentation of all plant materials.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service:

  • Assist customers in selecting grass seed varieties, plants, and soil amendments suitable for their specific needs.
  • Provide expert advice on soil preparation, seeding, planting techniques, and maintenance for optimal plant growth.
  • Educate customers on lawn care, soil improvement, and pest management practices.

• Product Knowledge:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of different types of grass seed (cool-season, warm-season, specialty blends) and their applications.
  • Understand soil types, soil testing, and amendments to improve soil health and fertility.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in horticulture products and techniques.

• Inventory Management:

  • Monitor stock levels of grass seed, soil products, and plant inventory, ensuring timely replenishment.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store nursery products, ensuring they meet quality standards.

• Plant and Nursery Care:

  • Maintain the health and appearance of nursery stock, including watering, pruning, and pest control.
  • Organize and present plants and related products attractively and safely.

• Operational Support:

  • Assist with nursery displays, signage, and merchandising strategies.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and inviting nursery environment for customers and staff.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in horticulture, landscaping, or nursery operations.
• In-depth knowledge of grass seed varieties, soils, and plant care techniques.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
• Ability to lift and move heavy materials, such as bags of soil or seed.
• Familiarity with soil testing procedures and equipment is a plus.
• Passion for gardening, landscaping, and helping others succeed in their planting projects.

Preferred Skills:

• Certification in horticulture or related field.
• Experience with organic soil amendments and sustainable gardening practices.
• Knowledge of native and drought-tolerant plant varieties.

Work Environment:
This position involves working outdoors and indoors, often in varying weather conditions. The role requires physical activity, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and bending.
