Position Overview
The Director of Marine Operations (DMO) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Marine Department for all Manthey Hospitality brands, to include Yacht StarShip, Craft, Pirate Water Taxi, Lost Pearl, and Tampa Riverwalk Rentals. The Manthey Hospitality fleet consists of 14 vessels as well as docks and barges and is growing!
The DMO reports to the COO & CEO. The DMO’s direct reports are the Port/ Vessel Captains, Port Engineer/Engineering Team, Dock Manager and crew.
Responsibilities
- Safety first; ensure all safety / security rules and regulations are followed. Develop and update safety / security regulations when needed. Establish Company Security and Vessel Security Officers.
- Manages all aspects of the Marine Department, including vessels, crews, engineering, and dock departments.
- Ensures vessels remain in compliance with Coast Guard and Local Regulations. Maintain vessel COI’s, crew training and preventive/repair maintenance and record keeping, including up to date logs via vessel captains/engineering department.
- Develop project plans to determine time frame, budget, procedures for accomplishing, staffing requirements, and any other resources to ensure successful completion of the project.
- Develops Dry-dock plans, specifications and budgets. Coordinate with Port Captain / Chief Engineer and receive approval from COO / President.
- Conduct weekly walk through of vessels to a
sees maintenance needs, forecasting new projects and maintenance needs as well as management of ongoing projects. - Ensure and Audit safety/security procedures and inspections weekly and monthly.
- Ensure that all machinery and equipment are in good working order.
- Positive Leader, maintain a supportive environment, encouraging/mentoring crewmember growth with a Green House program of developing Deckhands to Captains/Engineers/Managers.
- Ensure accuracy of invoices/ deliveries and promptly share expenses with accounting department.
- Manage cloud-based Maintenance and Safety systems (Vessel Vanguard and Helm) to ensure safety / security inspections are completed, along with preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Ensures departmental compliance with all company and government mandated training programs (Yacht Hospitality, Yacht Safety, Security Training, CPR, Safe Food Handling and Alcohol Safe Serve)
- Monitor department labor, repair and preventive maintenance, costs to keep within budget. Work closely with other departmental managers to ensure the most efficient, safe and profitable vessel operations.
- Create, maintain, update, and ensure all company Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
- Ensure Vessel Captains are fully informed and engaged in daily operating procedures, weekly operations meetings, cruise plans, etc.
- Conduct weekly Captains Meeting, providing minutes to COO and President.
- Develop and maintain a short and long-term approved capital plan.(engine overhauls, repowers, renovations etc.)
- Maintain relationship USCG, attend or run Coast Guard Inspections with Captains.
- Participate in Harbor Safety Committees and Maritime Organizations.
- Assist company with assessing possible new acquisitions.
- Captain cruises as necessary and on an emergency basis.
- Establish protocols for Captain training and sign offs for all brands.
- Ensure the marine department provides excellent customer service and maintains quality scores.
Benefits
Salary: $100,000 + based on experience; plus 20% incentive potential based on annual goals. Relocation assistance available. The position is full-time and includes a full suite of benefits which are effective from the first of the month following just 30 days of employment.

Requirements:
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working within the marine and passenger vessel industry.
- 3 years as Captain or marine management with excellent safety record
- 1 year as Port Captain, Senior Captain or Manager of Marine Operations
- Ability to clearly and concisely present technical subjects. Strong business & financial acumen, negotiating and cost control skills.
- Proven experience with contract & vendor negotiation.
- Proven efficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
Experience/ Education
- 100 Ton Masters License required or engineer license (Near Coastal Preferred, Inland acceptable)
- College Degree preferred, but not required
- Marine Operations
- Manager: 1 year (Preferred)
- M-F primary schedule, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
