Accounting Director, Digital Assets Center of Excellence

The Role

As Director of the newly established Digital Assets Center of Excellence, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and executing, from both a technical accounting and operational perspective, FMR LLC’s digital asset accounting. You will work across the firm with various stakeholders to 1) develop and maintain familiarity with all our digital asset projects, investments, and products, 2) support our investment in new digital assets and our involvement in new blockchains or DeFi activities by advising on accounting implications, 3) ensure alignment of accounting policies across the firm, and 4) support other corporate functions such as Corporate Tax and Corporate Treasury. You will be responsible for implementing a digital asset accounting and reporting system along with the related processes and controls, and for developing and maintaining a reporting package for senior leadership that includes a comprehensive inventory of the firm’s digital assets, their cost bases, and current valuations.

To deliver these results, you will partner with our domestic and international accounting teams, Accounting Policy, Fidelity Digital Assets, Fidelity Digital Asset Management, Fidelity Center for Applied Technology, Tax, Treasury, Corporate Development, and our Corporate Technology Group. You will need to proactively leverage these partners as well as outside resources to become a digital asset subject matter expert, and then use that expertise to advise on accounting, system, process, and operational matters, and to educate your accounting colleagues and other business partners.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA and/or master’s degree in Accounting preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in public accounting, with accounting policy and/or digital asset accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP), financial statement preparation, and internal controls
  • Knowledge of digital assets and blockchain technology a major plus
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in engaging and influencing stakeholders and driving change
  • Strong presentation skills and the desire to teach others
